Our School
Oakmont School is an independent, non-sectarian, K-12 school that prepares each student to be an academically successful person and a responsible citizen of both the community and the world. Students learn through investigation and hands-on, project-based learning, and courses are designed to accommodate students’ learning at their individual developmental levels. Classes are kept small, maintaining low student-to-teacher ratios and providing an environment that is both supporting and nurturing. Oakmont’s experienced certified teachers work together to promote a sense of community within the school.
Community service is an integral part of the curriculum, and students are expected to contribute meaningfully throughout the school year. Our student forum collaborates to find volunteer opportunities within the community. Currently, Oakmont’s students are working to rebuild and maintain a portion of the Shoal Creek Greenbelt.
Oakmont students are respectful of others and are willing to learn from diverse opinions and ideas. While individuality is certainly celebrated, students are also encouraged to listen to one another and to work constructively for the benefit of the class as a whole. In this way, the group dynamics of Oakmont classes foster an environment that is closely-knit, non-judgmental, and inspiring.
Oakmont’s faculty consists of a diverse group of individuals who work together to recognize and cultivate the potential of each student. Within a flexible structure, teachers create meaningful lessons, tailored with the character of their students in mind. In this way, Oakmont’s teachers foster an environment in which students are often deeply engaged in learning activities. Students learn to develop their own talents and maximize their own potential, working to build the character and strengths of their peers in the process.
